FAQ
Common questions before starting therapy.
Practical information about sessions, referrals, payment, confidentiality and what to expect.
How long are sessions?
A standard session is 50 minutes with 10 minutes dedicated to notes and planning.
How and when do I pay for sessions?
Fees are payable at the time of your appointment. Payments accepted include direct bank transfer or automatic debit via Halaxy using debit or credit card details.
Are appointments face to face?
Appointments can be face to face, via telehealth or by phone. For assessment purposes, some appointments need to be face to face due to the nature of testing.
Do I need a referral to book an appointment?
No referral is needed to book an appointment. If you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may receive a Medicare rebate for part of the session fee.
Do you offer Medicare rebates?
Yes. If you have a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for a set number of sessions per calendar year. Private health insurance may also provide rebates depending on your cover.
How do I make an appointment?
You can contact the practice directly via phone or email to arrange an initial appointment. If Rachel is unavailable, she will respond as soon as possible to arrange a suitable time.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is focused on understanding what has brought you to therapy and what you would like support with. It is also an opportunity to ask questions and decide whether the fit feels right.
Do you work with children and families?
Yes. Rachel works with children, adolescents, parents and families. This may include individual work with young people, parent-focused work or family-based sessions.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Everything discussed in therapy is confidential, with some legal and ethical exceptions. These include situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or where disclosure is required by law.
How long does therapy last?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and the nature of the concerns being addressed. Some clients attend for a short, focused period, while others engage in longer-term therapy.
What if I am unsure whether therapy is right for me?
That is completely okay. An initial session can be a helpful way to explore your concerns and decide whether therapy feels like a good fit, without any obligation to continue.
